WHY WE SHOULD OPPOSE THE PROPOSED MODEL
PROBLEMS WITH THE MERGER MODEL
Due to the reduction in the number of clinics, it will mean that for most people, rather than going to your clinic you’ll have to wait for a ‘team’ to come near you. Services at various ‘access points’ a few times a week or month is very different from going to a clinic. This is based on a one-off advice or single assist model not community- based lawyering. LAO has been pushing for shorter types of legal advice provided over the phone & online. This merger is in line with LAO’s general trajectory to cut rent and administrative costs at the expense of quality community-controlled legal action. |
